Sandra Holmes, Geraldine Hunt, Joan Scott and Margaret Stewart celebrated birthdays this month; Iris Roberts, Judith Roper and Dorothy were visited by the Welfare ladies and Jenny Aubrey is improving and hoping to return to View in the future.
Our guests for the day were Anne Oliver and Kirstie Chalker from Goulburn Growing Abilities.
The Growing Abilities project provides access to new gardening skills and tasks, employment opportunities and support for those who need it most. Participants include those with a disability or social disadvantage.
The project allows for the sale of plants, promoting an environment where participants feel a sense of contribution and recognition.
Growing Abilities has also developed community relationships and partnerships, including with many local volunteer groups. Many of them have jumped on board to share their horticultural skills.
Goulburn’s service clubs, including Rotary, Lions and Soroptimists have provided many volunteer hours to help build infrastructure.
Anne said the Growing Abilities project was all about giving choice to people with disabilities. It has been set up to provide opportunities for local people to develop skills, continue education or training and enjoy social experiences.
Their aim is for ‘social inclusion for everyone.'
They are situated at Goulburn Growing Abilities, 41A Ross Street, Bradfordville, and open Thursday and Friday from 10am to 3pm.
Anne and Kristie were presented with a small gift as a thank you for joining us on the day.
The raffles were won by Margaret Todkill and Marie Pedlow and the lucky door prizes were won by Maria Kenk and Wendy Strauch.
A group of 10 had lunch at the Eling Forest Winery at Sutton Forest on May 17 for the social day for the month. Lunch was very tasty and most of those present sampled the wines.
We were entertained by 'Panda' the limping Border Collie (she limped everywhere to gain the attention of the diners – she was a young healthy dog and a great pretender!).
Our next luncheon will be at the Goulburn Soldiers Club on Thursday, July 5, 2018 and new members are very welcome to attend.
If attending please notify Margaret Gooch by 7pm the Monday prior to the luncheon. Phone 4822 1859 or 0409 904 917.
