On June 18, the new volunteer management committee was learning the ropes from outgoing managers Dawn Giles and Ros Loftus. The knowledge and experience these two ladies were passing on had our heads spinning and this was just the first day. We wish them all the best in their new roles – or not-so-new roles: Ros in the garden and Dawn in the archive.
The committee members (see photo) are busy planning new events and exhibitions to make Riversdale “the place to be” and we encourage visits to our beautiful property to learn the history of Goulburn.
We also welcome Claire Baddeley, who has joined the National Trust as a regional coordinator after working with Goulburn Mulwaree Council. We know Clare will be of great assistance and support to Riversdale.
A bit of excitement for our archive, with Dawn being successful in obtaining a grant of $1606 to purchase purchase much needed equipment and supplies for the storage and care of our very special collection items.
Renovations are still progressing in the house and it is amazing how the stone restoration team is bringing it back to its former glory. It may be taking a bit longer than we first anticipated, but as they progress through each room, they are presented with more and more challenges that hide behind the old plaster on the walls and under the floorboards.
In the garden
The volunteers have been busily working getting rid of the weeds, mulching and preparing the soil for spring plantings.
The first of the jonquils are starting to pop out and it won’t be long before the garden is resplendent with the other bulbs showing their pretty heads as well.
If the weather is fine and you are looking for something to do on Sunday July 15, why not come and have one of our delicious Devonshire Teas. The winter sun in the courtyard is lovely. We will be open from 10am to 2pm. There will be no house to Tours because of the renovations.
We have some great upcoming events: a car boot sale on Sunday August 19. Selling spaces are still available and only cost $10 per boot or trailer. Call Judy on 0408 490 252 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also, the Rare Plants and Growers Garden Fair on Sunday, November 4. Gates will open at 10am till 2.30pm.
