Club treasurer Fiona Battiste said the event was “extremely successful” and well supported by local crowds.
“It was probably the best ride for quite a few years for locals.
“We’ve been drawing a lot of people from the Sydney region to the ride, and the Southern Highlands.
“But this year I found that there were more locals that came back and got involved and raised money.”
Following the Ride-a-thon, the club will host an event in the new year, during which the money raised will be redistributed throughout the community.
On its Facebook page, the club stated that some of the charities that would benefit from the funds raised would include:
- Goulburn Base Hospital
- Trek for Kids
- Goulburn Prostate Cancer Support
The event had a wide appeal, and Battiste said that, along with the locals, there were riders from as far as Sydney and Orange who travelled to Goulburn to attend.
The Ride-a-thon was first held in 1973.
It sees participants on horseback take part in a day of trail riding across tracks which vary each year.
It has proven to be one of the most successful fundraisers in Goulburn year after year, and Battiste said that in the 18 years that she has been involved with the event, it had raised roughly $150,000.
“We’re a small club, we don’t have a lot of members, but we’ve managed to do this year in, year out,” Battiste said.
“We’ve got a lot of supporters and it’s great.”
This year’s ride took place at Taralga and stretched for 22 kilometres from the Taralga Showground throughout different properties in the region.
The riders were given a barbecue lunch midway through the event.
Battiste said she was thankful for the pleasant weather on the day, which helped to make the event a great success.
