When asked to write an article for the newspapers, it became a challenge, as I wondered what could be said about our group that most people didn’t already know.

So the following is what I decided could be of interest to all those wonderful crafters, who feel they would like to be with like-minded souls.
We are a not for profit group, who are affiliated with the Knitters’ Guild of NSW Inc.
To that end, we are covered for insurance, advice, and guidelines for the smooth running of the group and the meetings.
There are 11 groups in Greater Sydney and 13 groups in the Country regions.
The Guild provides workshops for every group, when needed, no matter where they meet.
They organise a camp every second year, and are having their conference in Newcastle in the coming months.
We have just celebrated our 15th anniversary, and we are so happy with the way the group has evolved over that time, ie. to stay in tune with the changing times in our crafts.
We were at the Goulburn Show last weekend, and will be part of the Goulburn Rose Festival this weekend. Please, come say hello.
We promote our group to the wider community, encouraging children to learn the skills, so that the crafts continue in a forward direction in the future.
Of course, we invite all who are interested to take the step, and meet us at one of our meetings.
Doing charity work is always a big part of our year.
Hopefully, most of you may remember our contribution to Goulburn’s 150th anniversary celebrations was to wrap a magnificent hand knitted and crocheted scarf around our local icon, The Big Merino, lovingly nicknamed “Rambo”.
The whole community rallied and gave us many pieces to use.
It was a resounding success as our story not only went all around Australia, but it was read all around the world.
How exciting was that!
Presently, we are hard at work, knitting “Joey” pouches for WIRES, as they are in urgent need of same.
- As a side note, if there is anyone who could knit up a pouch, please contact me on 0409 809 134 and I could email you a copy of the instructions.
Our members mainly live in this area, but we also have one member who travels each month from Wagga Wagga, and a lady who comes from Queanbeyan group to share with her daughter and granddaughter, who are members of our group.
We have workshops where we share our skills, and many wonderful items have been created.
Enthusiasm, laughter and friendships all play a part in making the third Saturday of the month something to look forward to.
Will we see you at our next meeting? They are on third Saturday of every month at the Community Centre, 155 Auburn Street, Goulburn, 10.30am to 3.30pm, and all one needs to bring along is a project and lunch; tea and coffee provided.
- For further information about the group, we can be found on My Community Directory, mycommunitydirectory.com.au and at My Community Diary, mycommunitydiary.com.au. Also, shortly, we will have a page on Facebook. Or, if personal contact is more convenient, please phone Robyn Brown on 0419 417 411.
Happy knitting and crocheting, everyone.
