Autumn is an important time for flora and fauna surveys and there are lots of opportunities to get involved starting with the Wild Pollinator Count, between April 14-21. Take 10 minutes to watch flowers in your garden or local park and record what pollinators are visiting them. You might be surprised by what you see when you take the time to observe.
Another great school holiday activity is the Redfin fishing comp for children and teens at Meadow Creek in Gunning on April 23 with fish expert Mark Lintermans. Redfin perch is an introduced fish to Australian waterways and is considered a major pest. Help Gunning Landcare reduce their numbers in Meadow Creek.
On May 1 we have Geoff Williams from the Australian Platypus Conservancy coming to Goulburn to share his knowledge of the amazing platypus. Geoff will highlight the features that make the platypus so special and explain its conservation. He'll then give some hints on how to spot platypus in the wild and also talk about opportunities for becoming involved in an exciting new 'citizen science' project.
And as always our local groups - Windellama, FROGs, West Goulburn, Tarlo/Middle Arm - all have working bees planned this month and always welcoming new volunteers.
