Committee president Carol James is putting the call out for more members to come forward and help the effort.

"We're looking for fresh ideas and a fresh approach. We want some new people on the board," Cr James said.

Thirty-five people signed up last year to help reinvigorate Australia's longest running festival. But given other commitments this year, Cr James says more members are needed and nine are required for the board. People have to be a member to join the board.

Cr James will run again for the presidency but other key positions have to be filled. The board meets once a month to discuss ideas for the event.

"We'd like to get some young people involved," she said.

"I think we did a good job last year and we want to build on that and make it even better."

Organisers are keen to enlist Lilac Festival queen candidates now, giving time to build a profile and fundraise. In 2019, April Watson was crowned queen and was lauded for her ambassadorial role.

The popular street parade, markets in the park, the pet parade and some other favourites will return. Cr James is also floating the idea of a canoe race on the river between Fitzroy Bridge and the wastewater treatment plant that people can view from the Wollondilly Riverwalk.

The committee wants to be the cooordinator, rather than run everything itself. Last year, for example, the RSPCA organised the Pet Parade and Goulburn Soroptimists the window display.

New members and ideas are welcome. The committee's AGM will be held at the Goulburn Soldiers Club on Monday, February 24 at 6pm.
