The theme incorporates a celebration of women's achievements and a push for greater gender parity and effective action for advancing and recognising women.
One of our members, Charlotte McCarthy, spoke of her early life in Holland during the war years. She told how her mother put a false bottom in a pram, with a doll in place of a baby and walked to another part of the city to get food, which was then hidden under the doll. Had she been caught by German soldiers she would have been shot on the spot.

The family, consisting of four daughters, migrated from snowy Holland and arrived in Australia in the heat of January. Charlotte settled happily in Australia and raised her own son and two daughters.
Throughout the year our VIEW members are very active in speaking out on a whole range of issues critical for the future wellbeing of Australia - such as reducing child poverty across Australia and the Government investing more resources into social and affordable housing.
VIEW is a national women's organisation with 15,000 members in over 300 communities exclusively supporting the children's education charity, The Smith Family. Members sponsor students, and they also volunteer, fundraise and advocate to improve the life outcomes of Australian children and young people living in disadvantage.
Members volunteer their support in a number of ways including:
- Reading with local children to advance their literacy skills;
- Tutoring students with homework at The Smith Family's after school Learning Clubs;
- Participating in The Smith Family's mentoring programs;
- Making library bags, and donating school stationery packs;
- Assisting with student breakfast programs at schools.
Our role in the community is underpinned by our support of The Smith Family. We're investing in the futures of children and young people in need by helping them to make the most of their education and thrive.
