The club was founded earlier this year by Dean Roxburgh and Darren Marshall, with the intent of developing some of the ample junior talent in the region.

More than six months after the club was first announced, Roxburgh confirmed in an email to the Post that it would field two teams: one in First Grade and one in the Under 14s division.

What was particularly pleasing for Roxburgh was the influx of players new to the game in the junior team.

"This wonderful little side also has three young ladies in it who will be playing in their first year of cricket," Roxburgh said.

"We also have another six young men who have never played before. When we started on this venture, I just wanted to give promising young cricketers somewhere to play full-time First Grade cricket. This junior side has now started the rebuild of Goulburn junior cricket with nine kids who have never played the game before.

"It is a wonderful start to what I see being a huge future for MBK United cricket club."

Roxburgh's goal for the club is twofold. His primary objective is to help develop young cricketers into capable senior players, and in doing so, he also hopes to reinvigorate Goulburn's senior competitions.

"I have constructed a side that I feel will help our juniors and help our promising young cricketers around the district progress into better players," he said.

"But I also want to show them that our little district is worth hanging around where they can play some quality cricket and have some fun along the way."

The club elected its board last week, which Roxburgh praised and said would look to "build and help grow the game in Goulburn."

The combination of youth among the players and experience among the administrators, he said, will hopefully work towards his goal of making Goulburn cricket great again.

"I myself will captain MBK First Grade, but I know with the side that I have, there is plenty of calm heads and plenty of young heads to keep us old of fellers on our toes," Roxburgh said.

"Like I said when I came to Goulburn, this was always a goal of mine to try and make Goulburn cricket great again. The likes of Brad Smith, Mikael Webber, Josh Watling, and Andrew Tivey have all contributed over the past 10 years to making Goulburn one of the top country cricket districts in New South Wales.

"My goal is now to try and return Goulburn to where those boys took it."
